Holy Saturday

The Jewish Council remembers his vow to return and has the tomb guarded and sealed with a heavy stone. Second day of death. From the time Jesus left his body on the cross until the resurrection, little is known.

It is said in the Apostle’s Creed that “He descended into hell”, where he did battle with the Devil for our souls, a battle the Devil was destined to lose.

Prayers at Home

Most of us are aware there is a service we can use without a minister to pray at home or on travel or wherevever when we happen not to be at church. The service, actually two, one for morning, the other for evening, are found in the front of the 1928 Book of Common Prayer:

• The Order for Daily Morning Prayer on Page 3

• The Order for Daily Evening Prayer on Page 21

Churches without a minister and low churches often use Morning Prayer on Sunday, having Holy Communion once a month or whenever the circuit minister makes an appearance. Often the prayer service is said before the Holy Communion service. In that case it takes about 15 minutes to go through. If it is used as a standalone service, it takes about 20-25 minutes, plus music and sermon time. With its two lessons and various psalms, it is a very satisfying service.

People with more time on their hands or less competing for their time, or let's face it just better people than me, often pray both Morning and Evening Prayer services at home each day. It would be better if we did, but most do not.

If we expect our lives to be in order, we would have a lot better chance if we started out in the right direction each day, rather than wandering about as we often do. You might consider using "A Shorter Form" for a morning prayer which can be found on Page 592 and one for evening prayer which can be found on Page 593 of the 1928 Book of Common Prayer and is provided in its entirety on this forum.

Who are we?

The Church of the Faithful Centurion is an Anglican Orthodox Church parish. We adhere to the Holy Bible (KJV) in all matters of Faith and Doctrine, a strict reliance on the Thirty Nine Articles of Religion, the two Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion, the Two Creeds, and the Homilies and formularies of the Reformation Church of England. We are a low Prayerbook Church; we use the 1928 American Book of Common Prayer and are confident is it well understood by the common person of ordinary education. While we are litugical, we are not sacerdotal. We have a minimalist approach to the Prayerbook, following all the shalls and very few of the mays. We are conscious of walking in the footsteps of those who have gone before us serving God in the Anglican Tradition.

We are sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States, against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Reverend LTC Hap Arnold, an ordained minister in the Anglican Orthodox Church, is the Rector of the church. The church is completely self-sustaining and dedicated to outreach.
